Emergenesis -- An Exploration
The word "emergenesis" comes from the discipline of genetics. It refers to a trait that people share but which is not the result of genetics. This might be an ability to lead people, or the ability to be a good parent. But the word also comes from the two words "emergent" and "genesis," both of which refer to the beginning. In this sense, "Emergenesis" is a journal devoted to the examination of emerging communication technologies and their impacts of the world, especially the two-thirds world. A new technology may change everything, or it may change nothing. It may make communications more efficient, or expand access to a means of connection, or it may merely replace another technology that accomplished the same thing, but at lower cost or with greater capacity. Every new technology is not necessarily a revolution.
