The Media Research Institute is an independent non-profit research agency. It operates under the auspices of FEBC and Words of Hope, and reports to the FEBC and Words of Hope Boards. It partners with other non-commercial groups, Christian-based or not, to assist these groups to pursue their mission, whether evangelistic, disciplining, church planting, humanitarian, development, or relief in orientation, by providing specific intelligence on media-related and communication activities that may affect such groups' abilities to meet their mission.

The Institute also takes on research interns from partner organizations and conducts research seminars both on the methodologies used to conduct research and on the results of research undertaken on behalf of such organizations. The Institute is eager to help organizations improve their own research capacity and to assure that research undertaken is understood properly and used within the planning process to improve the ability of organizations to absorb research results appropriately.

The current staff of the Media Research Institute includes Robert Fortner, Director, Christy Prins, Associate Director, Tuyata Tserev, Research Assistant, and Tabitha Speelman, Comenius Scholar.
